Hi

Just joined this forum. We got Maya 2 weeks ago-the first basset we've owned. She's now 13 weeks old and has finished her initial vaccines so from Monday she can go out furthur than the back garden. She loves being outside and will not come in-we have to physically lift her or she would be out the whole day!
She has been really good so far, and loves chewing her toys. She adores our other dog, and would play with the cat if he would let her!

Here are some photos of her

Nice looking puppy. She already has the sad eyes. It's funny how some hounds just love it outside. My two spend a good share of their time outside, and are free to in or out as they wish. Even last night when it got down to -15 degrees, I had no trouble with them going out to potty. When I open the bedroom door, they run out to potty, then come to bed. They love the snow too. (go to my recent post of "First Snow" for picture & video)
Is there anything sweeter than a basset baby? What a face!
WElcome to the forum, and you have a beautiful basset baby.
Thanks for the replies.

I think she is a beautiful pup but I suppose I'm a little biased!! :D

It's like having a new baby in the house. Our other dog is 6, so it's a long time since we did the puppy thing. She likes regular naps (and can she snore!!) We have had to move things so she doesn't chew them, and we have a baby gate to keep her in the kitchen overnight. We have puppy pads down and keep having to tell the children it's not a good idea to walk into the kitchen in the morning without shoes on! But after only 2 weeks we are all in love with her and can't imagine life without her. We lost our 11 year old boxer in June and it feels good to have 2 dogs again.
Wow...is she beautiful or what? I am always amazed at new pups...they are quite possibly the best...next to human babies, that is! :D

She's gorgeous! I will have Baxter one week on Friday. He was born 8/16/06 so he's about the same age!
One of these years I will post his picture. He has two litter mates that had the same colorings as your puppy. He is a tri and is mostly black. We are having such a wonderful time with him! We got a new kitty around a week or so before and they are great pals now. He gets along fine with our 14 year old Lab, but our 5 year old Lab mix is still adjusting to competition. Baxter uses something new when we're at work - a dog litter plan and litter. The litter actually looks like wood stove pellets, although it's made of recycled paper. Seems to be working well, since we have to keep him contained to a small area. He has a large crate, the airline type, with a nice dog bed in it and he sleeps a lot when we're not home. When we get home and let him out, he's like a little mad man - doing the Basset 500 around the house and giving tons of kisses!!!

You are so lucky :D
We are hoping to get another Basset in the new year,i'd especially love a lemon and white girl
Huge Basset hugs,

She's beautiful! Congrats!

One way to get her into the house is to sprinkle a few kibble pieces so she can follow the trail. Just don't do it all the time or else you'll have to do that to get her in.

Enjoy!

Maya was born 29th August, so they are close in age.

Our 6 year old crossbreed Molly took about 10 days to accept Maya was here to stay, and now enjoys rolling around the floor with her. Molly loves rawhide chews and when we had the boxer Molly was very possessive of her chews-growling and snapping at the other dog, although she let us take them from her without a murmur. Maya tries to take them out of Mollys mouth, and Molly lets her! It's quite a game-Molly spins round so Maya can't get it, but keeps her head close to the ground to give Maya a chance to grab it.
I am so glad they enjoy each others company. Maya is more pleased to see Molly in the morning than any of us!

I looked for a dog litter tray-I saw one advertised online, but they only seem to be available in the States.
There doesn't seem to be a UK equivalent.

The first of our 5 resident dogs caved in after two weeks. The last is yet to succumb, but is weakening!

5 other dogs? How old are they all? My husband took a lot of persuasion to get a second dog 6 years ago, and even more when I was looking for a basset, our boxer died in June and about August I started working on him! Now Maya has him wrapped around her (large) paw, and he is the one that lifts her onto the couch for a sleep, or who lifts her for a cuddle at any opportunity.

What a beautiful baby girl you have. Nothing fills a hole in your heart better than a new puppy.
I just read your blog-these photos are fantastic.

So I figure Jackson is going to live with your dad. That will be hard to let him go :(
When does he go?

And I love the name Maya.......I hope to name a daughter that someday. :)

Hi and welcome, I'm a new basset "grandma" and your Baxter, Maya, and our Tatsi are all the same age! Tatsi was born Aug.22. I've have a link to our baby pics, from the breeder.

Unfortunatly Tatsi is my daughters dog and she and her boyfriend are moving into their own place. Tats has been her since Oct.14, and I'm going to miss her like heck, but the board has been so supportive. All have suggested resque groups, or just wait out Jess and Chris and see how soon Tatsi becomes my dog.
Anyway best of luck, she a beaty. It is fun watching their colors change overnight it seems! :D
