My 7 year old Bassett, Rudy was suddenly diagnosed and lost his vision in one eye, on 3 drops and 2 pills. We go back to the optometrist in a week to see our options. Looking for advice. Hoping to save his other eye as long as possible.

unfortunately that is not likely. it is highly unusual to preserve sight in the other eye for over a year. The do quite well not being able to see provided they are not experiencing any pain . Glaucoma can be quite painful and may require eye removal

I haven't dealt with glaucoma, however, speaking with friends who have I have decided that if any of my dogs ever do get it I would remove the eye as soon as possible, and if it is primary glaucoma I would remove both. Glaucoma is very painful, and people I have talked with told me they did not realize how much pain their dog was in until they had the eye removed and the dog noticeably felt better. JMO.
