We had a 4 day weekend with beautiful weather so we took advantage of it and stripped the doors and top off the Jeep. We didn't know what Bernie would think about the no doors thing or how he would react once we got moving but he far exceeded our expectations. He LOVED it. (and yes, he was very well secured so he couldn't jump or fall out.) He would poke his head out the side as faaaaar as he could possible reach and bite at the wind. He would sit and just watch things go by while his ears went all flappy in the wind. Once the "newness" went away he would just lay down with his head hanging off the edge of the seat soaking up some sun. We couldn't go anywhere all weekend without him right on our heels afraid we would leave without him. lol Looks like we definitely have Jeep dog.

Here's just a "few" pics for your viewing pleasure. ;)

I knew Bernies family and I were kindered spirits....I myself have a jeep and although it just stopped raining and got nice enough to remove the top, I have taken my half doors off and he is a riot....I bought Woody too, one of those car seat harnesses.....I am hoping to take the top down this upcoming weekend and see what Woody thinks....He and Bernie can be Jeep spokesdogs.....

I just posted on a different thread about lifting woody in and out....do you do the same with Bernie???:)

I wish we had half doors. That is on my wish list for Christmas!
My husband's truck is in the shop so my jeep is our daily driver right now and we don't have a garage. With Alabama weather being so unpredictable we can't leave the top down or doors off all the time. The temp this weekend ended up being in the mid 90's so it was waaaay too hot for him for long periods. He definitely enjoyed it more once the sun went down.

i don't usually harness him in because once he gets in the car he lays down and doesn't move until we stop somewhere. lol I used his regular harness and hooked him to a really heavy leash that i attached to the child seat restraints. I couldn't go buy anything right now and it worked really well and was probably more secure than I was with the jeep seat belt. lol

Yes, I have to lift Bernie too. He is 6 1/2 months old and already over 40 pounds of dead weight. lol i don't have too much trouble lifting him in right now but as he gets heavier i'm sure I will do the whole "front end/rear end boost" thing.

That is the same with Woody....he is just 7 months and even though I call him a chunky monkey, it can only get worse:D. Our spring here in Ohio is so unpredictable that I don't really leave my top off unless I know I am home and can keep her inside.

Woody has to have a harness....he thinks he is a lap dog (or parrot) and has to sit in my lap when I try to drive..which he doesn't fit btw me and the steering wheel anymore and if that isn't bad enough, when he gets sleepy he literally climbs onto my shoulders and lays across my back....not sure why, he never does it any place else...so a harness is a necessity...plus I don't want him jumping out if he sees something (or someone more likely).

But how cute of Pictures...when we finally get our top off, I will send you pictures of Bernies buddy woody.....

Bernie does the climbing on shoulders thing at home and just about wears me out. I couldn't imagine him doing that in the car. lol I tried him in the front once and he tried to get between me and the steering wheel! What's up with that? lol He's just always ridden in the back seat and chills out. Which makes us very happy. lol Anytime we have the doors off though we will definitely have him secured because i too would be afraid he would try to jump out.

Oh yes!! Pictures are a must!! I can't wait to see them!!

Toughy's head come in at anything over 35 Zephyr 40 and mariah is not allowed to have her head out the window for obvious window.

I safety note while it is exceedingly rare whind blown dust can cause permenent eye damage in dog that ride with there heads out the window, The makes doggie googles to protect the eye but I think the number of dog that would tollerate then would be rather small.

Would You Get Doggles For Your Dog?

Things for the info on the dust MikeyT...don't think that Woody would tolerate the googles...I bet he'd be chewing on them in less than 5 min....he loves to chew on anything plastic including my prescription bi focal glasses with the plastic frames....more times than I can count I have had to retrieve them from his teeth...:p
