At what age is it okay to fix a basset hound? If we get one it will be fixed, just never had done it before

Young puppies can be fixed before they're sold, but few breeders do this. Most vets seem to recommend fixing between 4-7 months. Females should be fixed before they come into season for the first time, to reduce their lifetime risk of mammary tumors.

Ruby's breeder said that her litters usually go into heat waaaay early and to get Ruby fixed B4 6 months. Ruby had hers done at 5 months.
