I know Elvis Presley sand about a Hound Dog and he was singing Hound Dog on American TV many moons ago and I was wondering if people on here know of 'famous' people who own or have owned Basset Hounds.

I'm in the UK so some on here may not have heard of ex footballer Mike Channon, (now racehorse trainer) who used to have Bassets back in the 70s and 80s but I don't know if he does now. Also ex newsreader Angela Rippon was a Basset owner and I have photos of her somewhere, because a few years ago I wrote to her about Bassets and she wrote a lovely letter to me and sent me some photos of her and her Bassets!

Columbo had a Basset .... So too did Rosco in the Dukes of Hazzard

"George Washington had Bassets given to him by Lafayette, although they were likely Basset Artesien Normands."

Hey this brings to mind a question. My daughter thinks Cannoli is a Basset Artesian Normand, I just looked at pictures and she does look like them as she is slimmer and a bit long legged for a basset? I have just thought she is probably not a well bred basset so not a perfect breed standard, but now I wonder. My daughter has mentioned it several times but until I saw the above quote I hadn't really looked into it.

Emperor Napoleon III had basset hounds and had sculptures made of them (not the same breed we know today of course but an ancestor)

Highly unlikely, as there are very few, if any, BANs in North America.

well Fred is our basset's namesake! My husband LOVES Smokey and the Bandit. Also Frita from the 3rd Smokey and the Bandit, Snowman bought her for Fred when he couldn't take Fred with.

Also the Basset from Coach too? I just remember him in the red wagon don't remember his name.

Quincy was the basset from Coach. My sister & I loved the episode when he ran after the pretty girl dog. "Quincy can moooove!!" I also wondered if PB was an Artesian Normandy Hound. I saw it in a dog book and her stature & mannerisms seemed to fit. But since they are so rare she probably isn't either. Now I totally want to frame prints of Elvis & Marilyn Monroe with their Bassets!

This is kind of like what Rosco and Layla have been blogging about lately. They started a few weeks ago, posting every Friday or so about famous hounds. They call it Famous Basset Friday and urge everyone to go check it out (some of the hounds posted here are already on their list for future blogs). The link is in my signature.
