Hi all. I have not visited this forum for quite some time. For the past three years, I have been dealing with many things with my angel, Emma. She got glaucoma...lost one eye...then a year later went blind in the other eye. I got so much advice from this forum...thanks to all of you. Especially to Francis' mom, Bev. Are you still here Bev? I need to search this forum and get back in touch.

Our Emma went to the bridge Saturday morning. We are devastated and it feels like someone is standing on my chest. I'm not quite sure I'm fully breathing on my own yet! She had lost the ability to stand on her own the two days prior to us taking her in. Although saturday morning--the morning we took her in--she seemed a little better. Something I'm still trying to deal with. But I have to believe that what we did was right. She was 12. And we loved her so.

So again, thank you for all the help I've gotten over the years here...all my basset questions were always answered. You are a great group of people. Kiss all your bassets today in honor of my Emma.

I'm so sorry to hear about Emma. It's never easy to lose them, no matter what the situation is. And yes, it does make us hug our pups a little tighter when we hear that one has left us.

Lots of bassets on this forum have gone to the bridge...rest assured that Emma has lots of pups waiting for her there.

As for you, Emmasmom, I wish you peace in knowing that you gave Emma a good life while she was with you. I am sure she knew how much she was (and still is) loved. My thoughts are with you.

I’m so very sorry to hear about Emma. It’s only been five days since I lost my baby to the bridge so I know exactly how you’re feeling. Like your heart has been ripped right out. They say it’s going to get easier but I’m not at the point that I know how though.

I received this poem in a card I just received today and I wanted to share it with you.

Saying good bye to you my friend
Was the hardest thing to do,
There’s not a day that goes by now,
That I don’t think of you.

I think of how you loved our walks,
Dancing delightfully at the leash,
I remember how that tail wagged,
At everyone we’d meet.

When I came home you were there,
Waiting at the door,
Showering me with kisses,
I could not have loved you more.

Saying good bye to you my friend,
Left me brokenhearted,
Your spirit remains in my thoughts,
As if we never parted.

Rest in peace little Emma – and go run in the fields with my Flasher

Hugs,
Jennifer

So very sorry for your loss, but what a lucky dog Emma was to have such caring owners to be with her and care for her to the end. Would that all dogs should be so lucky.
I know it's hard now, but in time the pain will lesson and the memories you and your family share will be a reminder of a life well lived and loved.

Oh, I'm so, so sorry

I too lost Francis yesterday and I am one big sore, open gaping wound. It was very, very quick for us thank God and up until he fell off the couch we had a super day together and he was gone (in his den on his couch with a very kind vet) within 40 minutes of his fall so we were very blessed. It just hurts so badly I can't even catch my breath. thanks so much
