Dogs, cats, and other pets: protect your family from infection (Mayo Foundation for Education and Research)
An interesting article that lists diseases that can be caught from dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, reptiles, fish, etc. Also discusses factors that might put someone at increased risk for catching an infection from a pet.
The list of diseases that can be caught from dogs and cats includes rabies, toxicariasis (round worm infection), cat-scratch disease, toxoplasmosis, and Q-fever.
People at greatest risk include young children, people who have had organ transplants, and people with HIV/AIDS.
