It was pointed out to me that Bassets in Europe tend to be larger and bigger boned than Bassets in America. That in America, the ideal Basset is a more athletic dog.

Has anyone been to a show in the U.S., or heard about one, in which a European Basset competed? Was he/she penalized for being too big? Or too slow?

In general, can European bred bassets win shows in the U.S.?

Well, so far I've only shown my Swedish-sired bitch in two US shows. One was the Nationals, the other was one day at Syracuse where she was reserve. I don't anticipate any difficulty in finishing her in the US, and she just completed her Canadian championship last weekend. She was also reserve at the Canadian specialty under a US judge. Her sister is an American champion. Her brother has garnered some interest from US breeders, but he hasn't been shown yet.

There is actually quite a variation in styles that I've seen shown in the US. I'd say that as long as you have a quality, SOUND, fit animal you should do fine.
