Does anyone have nonbasset friends(other dogs) for their bassets? Fred doesn't seem to into playing with other dogs, particularly larger ones. Yesterday was the first time she ever played with another dog at the dog park (a sheperd mix).

sometime in the future we may want to add another dog and while another basset would be nice I also looked into great danes.

Our bassets through the years have always behaved differently if they have come across Bassets, like they know they're the same breed, but they're OK with most dogs they meet, but I'm sure Bassets are their favourites, although where we live, there are very few Bassets!

One set of our friends has a beagle and another has two purebred mutts. Doppler LOVES these dogs! They have a freakin' blast when they get together. Virga I think is a little scared of them because they move too fast for her to keep up. And she's the smallest out of them. But they love other dogs and don't care about breed. Mine will play with my parent's shepard/husky mix just as well as with my grandparent's two shih tzus.

We had a toy Poodle Sandra when we got Maggie. Maggie was about 10 weeks. After we had to put down Sandra we got a Puggle named Yogi and he's been her friend for the last 1 1/2 years. They get along great but Maggie isn't into playing much. Now we are foster failures and adopted Daisy a year old Basset. She and Yogi get along great and play all the time.

Molly loves every dog she meets, large or small. She met a basset one day on a walk and was not any more impressed with him than she is with any other breed. Her best friend is my mom's teacup Poodle. She loves to run and play with him when she goes for a visit. They're having a sleepover next month when I am away. My poor mother.

Ella's best friends are a couple different boxers and a german shepherd mix, she loves most big dogs. She doesn't mind other bassets but she doesn't really play with them.

Ringo doesn't really have a preference, he isn't big on playing with other dogs besides Ella usually.

Zepher love JRT however most did not have the same response though but she could not go by any one in the vacinity to tray and get it to play.

Toughy's best bud was an large male australian shepherd basical they were the only dogs either would play with.

Macey having grown up with a hoard of bassets seam to prefer to play with them but any dog is acceptable. I think it is more an individual dog than any breed predelection. But I do think they tend toward dogs their same weight or heavyier so there is generally a height differential .

Snickers has only ever met 2 (pure) Bassets in her lifetime, and it seems to not phase her. She LOVES to run with the big dogs though..guess she feels she has something to prove...or that she has the heart of a big dog! Now her sister (beagle/basset) on the other hand is still a little gun shy when it comes to other dogs...she kinda breaks out of her shell, until the other dog makes a move back at her....hoping to change that when the weather warms up with more trips to the DP!

Princess Buttercup has one big dog friend, Diesel who is a lab/pit mix. The two of them are hysterical, they play tug, chase and even share treats!! They're totally besties! However at the dog park & daycare she prefers the little dog areas & LOVES whippets & Italian greyhounds! You can't help giggle when they leisurely & effortlessly jog with PB trailing behind at 100% of top speed! She loves to chase but has little to no cornering ability & quite frequently loses what she's chases after! She looks left & right flipping her ears with this look of, "Aw man, wher'd they go?". :)

So many cute dog buddy stories!! Cannolis BFF is my mums dog Charlie. He is some kind of chihuahua/spaniel mix near as we can tell. He just adores her and when she hears mums car in the driveway she goes nuts.

Maddie is the same way! She loooovvvess every dog. When I take her to day camp, she usually ends up having a report full of big dog friends. She's played with Bloodhounds, Boxers, Labs and Goldens. She ran into another Basset on a walk one day and liked him too, but didn't seem any more or less excited than usual. Older dogs are not so impressed with Maddie but most do like to play with her, too!

Anabelle has liked everyone, humane canine or otherwise, that she has ever met. It's one of her best qualities, but makes her pretty much the worst guard dog on the planet.
