Dixie is so frightened of the fireworks tonight!

My poor baby is just shivering and panting under my desk! We've snuggled in a blanket and tried to drown out the noise but she's still a wreck.

I knew she was afraid of thunderstorms but this is much worse. I dont' really know what to do. I feel like we're at Epcot's Illuminations! Most everyone on our block is outside lighting something in the street. We live hear the Melbourne Causeway and the city had a half hour *real* fireworks display at 9:00. I thought we were home free until the neighborhood celebrations began. I think the had a big tent at the beachside Walmart this year.

I suppose it's lots of fun for most ...but Dixie is not amused.

By the way ...Belevedere is on his chaise lounge, on the patio, watching the sky. He seems more curious and "on guard" than scared. Go figure!

The weather was beautiful yesterday so we didn't need to put the air conditioning on. However, we closed everything up at 8:30 p.m., put on a very loud dvd and put on the air conditioning so Ruby wouldn't hear the boom-booms as much. Fortunately the fireworks were the farest away from the house (5 miles) than at the other homes we've owned.

In FL, the fireworks were just down the street and our neighbors used to light loud things even tho they weren't supposed to and in MA, the high school was just down our street so the fireworks would be practically above our house!

Even tho Ruby paced the floor like crazy, she was less freaked out than normal by the noises.

At 10 p.m. we turned off the air and opened the windows and doors again to get the cool breeze (which was cooler than our air conditioning)
