My basset Rosco is about 7 yrs old. He has a very sensitive stomach. He was rescued from a very abusive situation and he spent a lot of time on the street. After a 4yr treatment, he is finally heartworm free. I have heard that some anti-flea and tick treatments can also prevent heartworm but I am afraid they could upset his stomach. It took me years to bring him back to health and he is such a wondeful dog I want to make the rest of his life pleasant. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help.

Ok I must live under a rock,I don't know of any flea and/or tick treatment that takes care of heartworms . Heartworm meds can prevent other internal parisites but do not repell fleas or ticks. Does anyone else know of something that works the other way around?

There is a medication called Revolution that will treat flea and heart worms. As far as I know it's a topical treatment like frontline, etc. Advantage also makes one called advantage multi but again it's a topical med. I don't know if these have tendencies to upset stomaches or not. My mom uses revolution on her dogs with great results but they are both healthy dogs. The best bet would be to ask your vet since he's so sensitive. Good luck and bless you for taking in a hound in need.
