Hi
I haven't been here in a long time, but Brandy my Basset had a large lump on her back so we went to her vet right away. Brandy had a malignent(sp?) mammary tumor 2 years ago so finding a larger than normal lump scared us. The results came back from the needle aspiration that it was just a cyst and it was caused by dead skin cells. I had never heard of this before she has had several little cyst a couple that ruptured but nothing like this one on her back. She has a small cyst on her leg that is fatty. The surgeon doesn't recommend removing them so we will leave them alone unless they change etc get infected etc. I know others here have dealt with cyst and just wondered if anyone else's Bassets have had this type of cyst?

Lightning had one of these. It seemed to appear suddenly, unlike the other lumps he has (and he has several). It was right where the buckle of his collar always seemed to sit, so I chose to have it removed. He recovered from it very quickly and with no problems. If it hadn't seemed so aggressive and wasn't in such an awkward spot, I'm sure I would have left it alone.

Cysts are pretty common in Bassets. Unless they're a problem I just leave them be, or maybe I have them take off if the dog is put under for some other reason.

It is just the dead skin thing I was wondering about. Brandy has had several other cyst that we removed when she had the tumor removed and they removed 2 others another time. One on her ear ruptured twice the last time it disappeared and didn't come back.
