So our Basset Snickers is 7 months old. We just got her from a friend a couple days ago. I need to clip her nails, but I have heard you have to only cut a small amount off at a time because it hurts the dog. Any suggestions here?

Also, I've noticed that some of her nails are black while others seem to be almost clear. Anyone else come across that? I've had Rottweilers in the past and have never seen it before.
