Louie can do this, but he has to balace against something with his front paws... He doesn't have the amazing balance that Charlie does!!! That's so cute!
Nice trick!!! One of my bleu pups started doing it the other day, I have never seen it before untill I watched your link.
Now I won't catch her doing it again.

Did you have to work with him to start it or did he start on his own?

We didnt really train him, but sorta enhanced it so that he stayed up for longer periods of time. We would show him his treat over his head (intstead of in front of his face) then once he jumped up into position we would let him eat it out of our fingers instead of giving it up too quickly. Good luck and be sure to post pictures :p
Yep, my Charlie does this -- it's hard to resist, isn't it? I understand that Charlie's father (Miriam's late great Spot) could do sit-ups, too, and that he did so quite intently waiting to go in the ring at Westminster. The crowd LOVED him because of this, and cheered very loudly for the basset who sat up  ......
Yes, Spot would do that for ages, as would his late sister Mouse and their mother Myrtle. Mouse's daughter Sally can stay up for ages as well. My second basset, Watson, was also good at this.

None of them were really "taught", they just started doing it and kept doing it because they got treats and attention for it.
Bog is an expert at it. I remember when I first adopted him, he could do it for a few seconds, and was wobbly. Now he can hold it for a few minutes, sit up like that on a chair, couch, and the back seat of a car! Occasionally he'll even wag his tail while he's up like that. I think its because he's got buns of steel that he can sit up like that so well!
My basset, Freddy can also do that. I don't understand it's pretty easy actually for my basset hound. But he does it rarely though . We don't tell him to do it but he does it by himself. Still a nice trick!
