Okay - I've thought and thought about it and here's what I've come up with.

RE: Cyberhound Meet, Greet & Slobberfest

Since we are all so spread out across the country (and oceans), I was thinking maybe we could consider New Orleans in like March, 2007. We might be able to get some good deals down there and even possibly put on some function to help the local rescue organization. It's almost geographically centered (I know Kansas is and if you all think that's better, that's fine too).

I'm willing to head up this thing but will need people to pitch in on different "committees". So, is it worth pursuing? If not, that's okay too but I just wanted closure on this one way or the other. (Yes, I know I'm anal but I'm also old too so I figure it's my perrogative :D .)

Sorry but when I read the Thread title I could not help but think it was another vomiting thread

FWIW soemthing as gradious as this is unlikely to be pulled of with success. IMHO the chances of success would be improved iF at first you attempted some regional functions as part of or addition to an already going basset function.
Say in the Midwest the Michagan Waddle. In the East Tristates Ocean City Boardwaddle etc. Plan a meeting at the event, day before, or after
In a worse case situate even with a low turnout there is still a terific basset based function to attend. just my two cent

Lynne, I had my heart set on Vegas! New Orleans is too far for me, it's unlikely I would be able to make it.
I thought a lot of people were up for going to Vegas.
I think we just need to decide on the place, and go for it. Whatever is decided, not everyone will be able to go, no matter where it's held.

New Orleans is fine with me.

And closer than Vegas. :D

Although something further north might work better --- I don't know. If it's too far north, though, it's probably too cold for me unless it's the middle of summer.

You don't want me on a committee. Trust me on this.

Oh wait. Things changed while I was posting.

Vegas is fine with me. Do they have an off season? I think it might be really expensive during --- well, maybe all the time. Of course, everywhere is expensive these days.

Las Vegas is fairly reasonable. If people will be bringing dogs, that pretty much rules out the larger casino properties, though. Southwest has many, many flights in and out of LV, so airfare can be inexpensive. But Southwest doesn't transport pets. The weather in March can be iffy--sunny and mid-70's, or snow. May and October are our nicest weather months.

It seems to me we held a vote, and the general response was favorable, for January, in Vegas.
If that's fair enough with everyone else, let's go for it!
I'll help, Lynne. I don't think it's that hard. What we need to to post a "sign up" permanently at the top of the board, once we have the date, and location. That way, those who are serious about going, can sign up.
After that, we can plan... how long, hotels, activities, etc.
But someone needs to make the decision, where and when, and go from there. Let's just go for Vegas, in the early part of 2007.

After driving across country just 6 months ago, and one week to the day after Katrina hit that area, the very last thing I would ever want to do is drive almost across country again.

So Ruby and her servants will stay in California while you all have the flinging slobber contests and all that.

Nationals this year at in Gettysburg, PA October 3-7 at the Eisenhower Hotel.

Here is the link to BHCA:

We'll be there for rally! I'd love to stay the whole week, but we do a horse vacation around that same time.

Somebody suggested adding the Cyberhound meeting on to another big BAsset meet, and I think that's a goo idea. Suggest the nationals, or one of the big Waddles.

No Billy, Field trials are NOT the best thing at Nationals, the Hunt Test is. Almost every person on this board is a pet owner with altered Bassets (heck, I'm a big-time performance Basset person and I'd never own an intact Basset!), so the Field Trials would exclude their participation. As far as a Cyberhound meeting; I would go to Las Vegas only because my Grandfather lives there (kill 2 birds with one stone). I am going to the Michigan Waddle this year, as well as Nationals (we'll be competing in Veteran's Obedience, Rally Novice and hopefully the Hunt Test). Planning a meeting around a rescue event is a wonderful idea. Hope to see some of you in Michigan or Pennsylvania. Belinda.

You dont't have to get up so early or travel off site to watch or participate in agility ;)

only problem is it conflicts with the field trial for "dogs"
