Has anyone done that? I'm sure somewhere....I'm not planning on doing this myself, but I had the thought of cockers (childhood favorite dog) and my new favorite a basset. Seeming that both are short breeds I would think each breeds temperments would balance to be a sassy mix!
Any thoughts?

I'm speechless.......

Why on earth would you want to do that?

Please, no. Thousands of mixed breed dogs die every year in shelters due to not enough homes to go around. Please don't become part of the problem.

Well. The lack of funding for and public apathy about our public school system is beginning to make itself known in the most unusual ways in our daily lives.

That or this is a troll post.

I'm not going to hold my breath while we figure out which.

if you are interested in such a cross, you wouldn't have to breed anything, there is a breed out there that is close to what you are looking for...Clumber Spaniel

There ya go! A Clumber Spaniel is a good representation of a combo of these dogs!

However, that said...
I, too have had cockers and now a basset. I'd say they're too different to want a cross. I know what you're saying about fantasizing a cross between a THIS and a THAT, though. It's one thing to think it, and it's another thing to DO it!

Wow! That's about as much hostility as I have ever seen on this forum. Particularly in light of what seems (to a rational reader) to be an attempt at a humorous musing. Our neighbors had a HUGE Irish wolf hound … so many times it crossed my mind how absurd and hilarious a basset wolf hound would appear. I don’t think that makes me a whacko-breeder-crackpot.

When we took Fred to meet Mae before we took her from her foster home, I made the inadvertent comment “too bad they are both fixed, they would have ADORABLE puppies.” The foster mom (although a very nice lady) glowered at me, and lectured me on the evils of back yard breeders. She actually had second thoughts about letting us adopt Mae – EVEN THOUGH I had absolutely no intention of trying to breed the dogs (fixed or not). Ever. I was just musing out loud, but received a half hour scolding.

My point?? Be kind. Consider the nature of the comment. Take a deep breath. I seriously doubt that any of us will using bassets in our evil-mad-scientist laboratories. That’s what monkeys are for --- TOTALLY KIDDING. Be nice.

Got nothing but love for you guys!!
