Beau seems to drag his front feet when walking. When walking on pavement he has worn the middle two toe nails on both front feet back to the quick so that they bleed. He also stumbles, like he is not picking up the front feet high enough with each step. Any one have some thoughts?

I'd have him checked by the vet to rule out a medical problem.

But some bassets have very poor front assemblies and cannot lift their feet properly.

My Bogie is bowlegged in the front, more severely on one side than the other. On the worse side, his normal walk involves dragging the paw against the pavement, so his nails scrape the ground. His nails are extremely short on that foot (i've never had to cut anything but the duclaw). When I first adopted him when he was very young, once or twice they bled. My vet said there wasn't really much to do about it other than to stop the bleeding. The more Bogie filed his nails on the sidewalk, the shorter the quick got, and he hasn't bled for at least 2 years.

None that fit the upload limit of 500k ?? His front legs do not look different that other bassets I see. His right front paw is turned slightly more "duck footed " than his left. He has not always had this problem. It seems to have come on in the last month or so. Can pano effecting his rear legs cause the problem??

I'm not sure, but if he's favoring a leg I could see him walking differently to compensate.

Does your town or do you use chemical de-icers? I know Francis gets irritated and bleeds after prolongued exposure (which no longer happens now that I know about it)

We live in South Florida so deicer is not a concern. Good thought and thanks for the reply.
