Has anyone had success with paying for private obedience lessons with their Basset? We have a ten month old male Basset, neutered a month ago, who has absolutely horrible behavior when excited. He bites (not hard, but puts his mouth and teeth on you) everyone, jumps on you incessantly, barks and barks and barks, makes it impossible to sit on the couch because he will jump all over you, etc. I work from home and am with him almost literally 24/7. He is so smart and can be SUCH a good sweet boy but when he is excited, no matter the reason, he loses his mind and is seriously a nightmare. I know Bassets are such a stubborn breed. I feel like I have literally tried quite possibly everything you guys may suggest trying. I have been so disciplined and researched and consistent and patient and all the describing words for an excellent and caring Basset Owner! So I am truly just asking for any thoughts or experiences on using a Obedience Trainer whether in class form or a one on one situation. Thanks so much! My name is Christi by the way, and George is our Basset boy :)

I am a huge fan of obedience training, even though I've been training dogs for over 35 years I still take my dogs to classes. Make sure your instructor is up to date on modern methods and knows how to work with "non-obedience" breeds.
