I have the strangest bassets. As a puppy, Sami adored the water. When we ran bath water we had to guard it closely or we would hear a splash... and find a very happy basset playing in the water. As she grew older she quit jumping in so often. Now though- all my dogs have to be with the humans whenever they are in the tub. Sami, Jake, and Indy hang over the edge and supervise your bath... it makes it difficult for a relaxing candlelight soak in the tub. Abby lays on the mat across the room. Eventually they give up and leave for a post outside the door. The few times we tried to lock them out they howled the whole time... or last year Jake tried to dig a hole through the wall :D

Huck has to be in the bathroom with either my husband or I when we take a bath. He mostly just curls up and naps while we're in the tub. But on the boat, whenever he is in the dinghy, we have to tie him in because he is always leaning way over the side watching himself in the water. The few times we haven't tied him in, he becomes a pontoon walker and tries to walk around the entire dinghy on the pontoons! So now he's always tied. He grumbles but it's better than fishing him out of the drink!

I have just the opposite. When Belvedere was younger, I used to try to keep him in the bathroom while I showered or bathed, just to make sure he didn't get into anything. He would carry on and whine with such drama that I had to open the door and let him out.

HOWEVER, he doesn't like it if I am in the bathroom with the door closed. Just as much drama to get inside. He wants the door wide open and he lays just so that I can't close it. Sort of in the doorway!

Lily doesn't hang out in the bathroom while I'm in the tub, but she does come in occassionally and hangs over the side and I guess to make sure I'm still there. Then she goes back out to do whatever she does when I'm not looking.

Moe loves a bath. He used to hop in whenever someone was filling the tub but he's done that less and less as he's gotten older. He still insists on being in the bathroom when I shower. I can't close the door or he whines and howls. Once inside, he puts his front paws on the edge of the tub, nudges the shower curtain aside, and licks water from my lower legs. :D

I always have supervised bathroom visits. They both will come and sit while the toliet is in use. And Leroy will lay on the bathmat in front of the shower from time to time. Neither have jumped into the tub, but there have been a few times I was just waiting for it to happen.

Yep; Daisy frequently joins me in the shower or tub. Not literally IN, I should say--she lays down and snoozes on the bathmat after a drink of bathwater or drinking from the faucet, until I get out and dried (which she assists with by licking water off my lower legs & feet) and ready to leave the room, then she follows me out and generally goes where-ever the rest of the family is until I'm dressed. ;-) If I get out the blow-drier she disappears, though--she hates that noisy thing.

This is great. I was hoping it wasn't just Snoopy. We were joking around about this at work the other day. Someone told me to go home and take a long quiet and relaxing bath.
Kind of hard, when Snoopy will come in and just sit there and/or hang over the edge of the tub and whine, because he wants to take a bath too.

And don't shut the door on him, he will lay at the door sniffing, whining, barking, and trying to shove his paw under the door to try to open it.

Oh and yes he too escorts you to the bathroom on almost every visit or will at least come check on you. I guess he feels its the least he can do since we escort him to go potty also.

Dude insists on ear scratches and undivided attention when the throne is occupied.

Do not think about closing the door, he will scratch, whine, nudge in, etc...

He must scope out the tub user, verifing that bathing is being performed to HIS satisfaction, if it isn't he will finish up the job via the long, long bassett tongue.

He has a foot fetish too, they must be clean 24/7...personally, I like the toe attention, but don't let that get around!

Christie, you've solved something that's been puzzling me for ages! THAT'S why they follow you into the bathroom ... WE follow THEM to the bathroom. LOL Here and I thought George was being Lassie, and was poised to fish me out if I fell in the well. Nope. He's SUPERVISING. Of course! LOL He's not that fond of watching a bath, though he does come in and make sure we get started correctly, but then he'll go back to whatever nap it's time for.
