We want to get Annie a life jacket to take her swimming this summer at different pools in the area.

We were wondering if anyone has purchased one for their Basset and what size would we need. She is 55 lbs.

Thanks for any info you might have.....

Well I guess I could qualify as an "expert" in this one ;) You can get one from West Marine or a pet retailer (such as Smith & Fosters, Petsmart, etc) and I really recommend one like this:

West Marine Premium Pet Flotation Vest

Manufacturer Style
WEST MARINE - 008_240_009_003

Description

This vest is built to provide extra flotation
Generous ergonomic fit for freedom of movement
Keeps your pet upright in the water
Red with reflective tape for better visibility in poor conditions
Three fasteners for a secure fit
Convenient lift handle

We have one for both Huck and our Lab, Grace and they fit and work well. I'd buy a large due to the large and long torso. Happy boating!

Doesn't it kind of depend on how long or short the legs are? Ruby is so low to the ground, ("How low is she"...), that if she wore a life jacket, it'd hit the ground below her.

Thanks so much Lynne for the scoop on the vests and know where a West Marine store is in our area.

Will head there today and pick one up and thanks again for your expert advice!

The vests fit fairly snug (and should so they don't slip off). You can always take them with you to try them on - even to West Marine.
