Recently, a rabbit family has decided that our fenced in yard would be a great place to hang out. This event has undoubtedly triggered our hound, Dude. Lately, he’s been forcing them into corrugated drain pipes when they can’t safely make it out of the yard. When he does this, he aggressively barks and barks in conjunction with digging and doing all the things he can to try to get them out. To me, the barking seems counterintuitive but I was wondering if this was typical behavior when hunting rabbits or if he is just goofy. His breeder tested his litter at a bunny barn and he was found to be the dud of the group. For reference, he is an intact male, just over a year old.
