Hello guys, I'm new here ;)

So I have a basset, 6 years old, 2 colors, and 32kg .

I have been struggling with his food, and I havent found a proper response to my problem. He's been eating royal canin for a few years now, but he always has some problems with it. As soon as the bag get's to the last 1/3 , my dog wont eat all of the food, he's been eating weight management and weight control royal canin brands. I've tried to change the food, put water, put some cooked chicke in it, but every time , as the bag is in it's final 1/3, he wont eat it as well, loses the urge to eat it, sometimes wont eat all the food (I give him around 300g per day, divided by 2 times), some times he starts to swallow and producing a lot of saliva and goes for some plants and then he vomits, sometimes he's poop comes to soft, sometimes to hard. He's veterinary doesnt now wat to do anymore.

Has someone had similar problems that can help me??? I've seen bassset hound owners that only give then cooked food, like chicken with some veggies and such. I've heard about natural dog foods like naturea.

I've been stuggling with this for a long time, he eat's chicken very well, but he seems to lose interest on dog food a lot of times. I really dont know what to do :(

Thanks

If the problem is only with the last portion of the bag, I'd look at how you're storing it, whether it might be too humid and the food is getting moldy, or if mice could be getting into it. Otherwise if he just intermittently doesn't want to eat, I'd say he's just not hungry. If he's got a weight problem he's probably already getting more than he needs, skipping a few meals won't hurt him.

he's around 34kg, and eating around 300g a day (plus a little bit of cooked chicken). on the bag, it says 330g to a dog with 30Kg, so I think I'm under feeding him ,but yes, skipping a meal is not a big problem. The bag is stored inside the house, no mice get to it, as for getting moldy, well , didnt think of that, I'm going to change how I store it. Thanks

Usually the amount the bag says tends to be on the high side, especially for bassets who generally have more bone for their weight than other breeds.

I recommend feed 25% less than the minimum amount listed on the bag as a starting point.

"plus a little bit of cooked chicken" likely means your are over the 330 amount.
