Menna is due her annual check up soon and her vet is not a specific basset specialist so do I need to look for anything in particular, she weighs 38lbs and has recently started sleeping more during the day, when she is awake we know about it and is always into something she seems happy and is always affectionate (except for the occaision growl when my husband tells her off for wanting his side of the bed) I know bassets are individuals but they seem to have a lot of traits in common with each other any advice would be welcome

It may just be a stage or maybe it's seasonal, but Menna sounds a lot like my Daisy Jayne. She sounds a bit younger than Daisy (Daisy is 16 months old today) but very similar. I've noticed that dogs seem to go thru growth spurts like children do--at times, eating/sleeping more than usual, and it comes and goes periodically.

Right now, it seems like Daisy is either wide awake and raising cain, or she's sleeping like a rock. There is no in-between mellow time lately--she takes short power naps in which she appears to be sleeping deeply, but she sleeps deeply and well at night, all night. In-between the naps, look out, because she's tearing around as fast as she can, playing with/terrorising the family (depends on your point of view!), or vigorously shredding one of her dollies and getting fiberfill all over the living room. Daisy's appetite has also been good lately--instead of playing with her dog food, she's actually eating it very eagerly.

Nah, I think Menna sounds normal enough, if my Daisy is any standard for "normal", LOL, but of course if you have any concerns you should mention it to the vet when he does her check up. :)
