We have a greyhound who gulps his food as well, we feed him out a bunt cake pan. The one with the tube going up the middle. This works the same as a slow dish, or ball. Also we burp him after every meal as well. He now comes and looks for it. He is like a big baby!

As for burping your dog, our greyhound Hook will come up after eating and stand in front of you, all you have to do is pat his back and sides like you would a baby and sometimes we rub that extra long throat of his. Like I said, he looks for it now, and will not leave until all the burps are out. We are getting our basset puppy around April 16th and plan on starting that routine with him as well. I can't wait for him to come home!!
