Just wanted to vent. I realize it's very difficult to plan Nationals, etc., etc., etc., but I'm still pissed off. The Hunt Test is scheduled for the thursday BEFORE Nationals week. Field Trials are sat. and sun. and Nationals start tues. This scheduling basically eliminates ANYONE from entering the Hunt Test who doesn't field trial their dogs. Is any agility person going to go to Pittsburgh 8 days (without travel time) before the agility trial to enter the Hunt Test? Or would any Obedience person travel 5 days before the Obedience trial? I think not. One of the reasons the Hunt Test was implemented was so that people with spayed or neutered Bassets could compete in the venue the Basset was bred for. I also heard via Joann Hilliker (the Hunt Test chairperson) that Gene McDonald wanted to eliminate the Hunt Test from Nationals because it doesn't make the BHCA any money!! I'm so angry. THE one event that epitomizes all of the Basset's history is the Hunt Test. The Hunt Test has nothing to do with Field Trials. Molly earned her Master Hunting Hound title and I've never even been to a Field Trial. And won't until they change the spay/neuter exclusion. We had such a great spectator attendance at last years Hunt Test I would have thought that this years entry would be full to overflowing. Not now! They'll be lucky if they make the $200 needed to rent the grounds. By this poorly thought out scheduling Gene McDonald's observation will be realized. By the way, Ken Engle opposed this decision. I for one will not be in Pittsgurgh in Oct. (or rather Sept. and Oct.!). What a shame, and shame on the BHCA Board. Belinda.

I"m appalled at how little support there is among BHCA and the local clubs for *any* performance event, and it's getting worse, not better. Since I started showing in 2003 in obedience, the number of local specialty obedience trials has gone from 5 per year in 2003 to zero in 2007. You'd think these guys were logs on legs, if you went by the clubs' attitudes. The Hunt Test scheduling is especially galling because they won't change the spay neuter requirements for field trials. I just do not see the logic in that one.

I hope you don't really expect logic from BHCA on the topic of performance events !!! To accomodate the field trial might interfere with their routine. The fact that the field trial at the CA national was held on grounds that were inadequate, should not cause any inconvenience to the show !! The fact that there was no water available on the field trial grounds at San Diego was of no improtance !!! The attitude seems to be -- you can hold your performance event, but just dont botrher us.. We have more importance things to do -- like planning our hospitality suite.

I made a typo. The Field Trials are Fri. and Sat. and the Hunt Test is Thurs. Why couldn't they have the Hunt Test Sat. so maybe a few performance people might enter? Joann said that's the only time they could get the grounds. I assume if they got them on Sat. they could get them on Sun. Why not have the Hunt Test then? I was asked to be the Hunt Test raflle chair and had all these great ideas for making $, but those ideas entailed being at Nationals DURING Nationals week. Not happenning this year. Take care, Belinda.

I am not happy about this, it means I won't be able to attend the field events because I simply can't be away from home/work that long.

Why could they not hold it the same week as the other events?

um Cuz people complained about the Feild trial and conformation ring conflict, especial since the the field trial is off site.

[guote] I assume if they got them on Sat. they could get them on Sun. [/b][/quote]
Why if they could of gotten the grounds on Sunday they more than Likely would have run the Field trial on Staturday and Sunday not Friday and Saturdy.

There is not enough time the week to get all the events in without scheduling conflicts every year someone won't be happy with the schedule.

Then, maybe the BHCA should get smart and allow the National Field Trial to be held on a different date --- That makes too much sense, - the field trial could be held at a time and place suited to field trials. It would also make it easier for clubs that have no field grounds to put on the show.
The main reason cited by BHCA has been that the National is "a chance to showcase the talents of your Basset". At the Colorado Nationals, the trial grounds were about 10 minutes from the show -- without checking, I entered my basset in the show. Guess what??? He was scheduled to be in the show at the same time as his class ran at the trial --- great opportunity to show his talents -- I lost my entry fee!!!! Thanks BHCA - There were several other times when I lost my entry fee due to conflicts, and many when I did not bother to even try entering both. GFC Wicxkwire's Fer de Lancs CDX is still the only GFC to also have a CDX, but I never did get a chancs to "show his talents"-- Thanks BHCA

I know Tracking has the same type of problem, but we have to have one national event where we can all showcase the talents of our hoinds!!!

I'd be glad to -- not sure the show people would be happy with a tent behind a Motel 6 with eevnts starting at 7am[/b]
Well, as someone noted earlier, it's impossible to make everyone happy.

OK i think i remember what i was told about this now.we were going to have a trial the weekend b/4 the Nationals,in Batavia,NY.this would be a Sat.and Sun. Monday we would travel to Ohio or Northern West by god Virginia( not sure which one yet,but i think they were going for Ohio) this would give us our Mid Week back.Run the classes Tues.and Wed. Than go to Imperial in P'burg which is not far from the Ohio grounds i think less than a 2 hour drive.Than the trialers would be there for the hunt test plus the Trials and than we could all leave for home on Sunday instead of Monday. if i also remember we are starting the trials b/4 because of a conflict with the Beagle Clubs field trials. Now as for me,i don't care if they hold the trials in HELL!!! I'm going!! c-ya if ya make it,won't feel bad for ya if ya don't.
