Good Morning - I have a 2 year old Basset Hound Mix who is short and stubby. Out of the blue he began limping while getting up from a nap yesterday and he would walk off the limp as he got into his trot in a walk. However, it has progressed. We have contacted the vet and have an appointment for him on Saturday. That being said, I massaged and helped him stretch his leg and he doesn't whine or cry when I do any of that. The only whimper we get is when pressure goes towards his hip. We have a high bed and he likes to jump up and down from there. We also have a 5 month old puppy that he plays with. Are we potentially looking at some sort of strain? He is still wanting to go on walks and chase cats, he still is eating and drinking, and continues to BEG to go outside. Help ease my dog dad mind :/

my first guess would have been a a luxating patella, a knee cap that slips in and out of place which can cause pain sometime severe when out of place and everything is normal when in place but you symptom would not be typical,. Any soft tissue injury strains and sprains are going to need a hands on diagnoses from a vet,. In the mean time you want to keep him off of it as much as possible crate rest would be best. Keep in mind soft tissue injuries are often worse than broken bones. They take longer to heal,, do not heal as strong and more apt long term to lead to arthritis and continuing pain. You need to highly consider stair or a ramp to the bed so he does not need to jump on or off,
