Default Collar to use

Hello, what kind of collar do you use? We have tried different ones and settled on the martingale however lately it seams to choke her when she pulls. I have made adjustments and the sizing is right for her size neck. We need suggestions on what works well fed everyone. Thanks

We use a martingale with our Basset although at one point early days, he was on a normal collar and a mis-named 'choke chain'. We have on occasion over the years with our lot, had to use the choke (which used correctly doesn't choke), especially with some when we were out on the local roads, before reaching the fields, to control them.

I used a head collar with my Whippet (a Canny Coller) on recommendation, because she was inclined to be spooky when on the lead and with her fragile neck, I couldn't risk her wearing a proper Whippet collar. Over time she's improved to the point she now has a martingale too, with a thick Whippet collar. However, I'm not sure a head collar would work with a Basset?

Again used correctly, a choke, or slip collar might be the best way to go with your Basset.

I haven't watched this vid. right through but it seemed ok from the bit I did watch. There are other vids. if you google.

Mine have never worn a collar when at home.

different collars, restraints have different purposes it depends on what the purpose is. If you are looking for a collar, restraint to help train loose leash walking, although I often use a slip lead, I general recommend a sporn no pull halter or similar device for such a purpose. Beside being very effective a controlling pulling which makes it easier to train loose leash walking. it is the most secure restraint for leash walking the only device mine have never managed to slip or pull out of and this includes slip leads and choke chains and martingales which the dog can learn to duck its head and back out of when they are in a slack state

Ours general do not wear colors around the house but when the do wear collars it is usual hunting collars which are for identification puropses at hunts and field trial events,

I am a big fan of training so the dog doesn't pull in the first place, then the type of collar is irrelevant.
