Default Goodbye Olivia

A week ago last Wednesday, early in the morning, my bestest best friend, Olivia, crossed the rainbow bridge while laying beside me in bed. She was 11 1/2.

I miss her so much.

Aren't they 'dear' as oldies. I feel for you even if she managed to get through the dreaded 8s! Such a threshhold for Bassets

Sorry for your loss of course. Been there, all too often over the years - but again how 'lucky' you were that she made this decision for you (assuming she simply went off in her sleep?)

As with most things, itís never simple. She had minor heart problems, something we kept an eye on over the years and never got in the way of her quality of life. And it was congestive heart failure we were treating the weekend before. She went downhill rapidly from there. Vet took blood tests and were waiting for the results from the lab Thursday.

I spoke to a tech at the end of the day Tuesday voicing my concerns and decided to ride it out until first thing in the morning.

The autopsy determined she had a number of stomach tumours, of which one had burst.

I know that there is nothing the vet could have done, and she likely would have passed away alone in the clinic had I brought her there, but I still struggle with whether I could have done something more.
