Needing food help!

When I first got Kenzie her breeder had her on beneful, I heard it was bad so I slowly switched her to Iams for large breed puppies. She did well on it until she started throwin up yellow bile. Then it got to the point where she just wouldn't eat at all. I went to the vet and he said its probably time to get her off the puppy food for its probably too rich for her now. So she is almost 7 months now and I'm in the process of switching it again and the guy at Petsmart recommended me Natures Recipe for adults... Apparently it's a natural dog food but she's not really eating again. I don't know what to do cause I know she's hungry and the only thing she seems interested in is people food..(which she hardly ever give her)

Any suggestions on food or am I doing something wrong? Anything will help me at the moment! Thanks

If you're SURE she's hungry (it is natural for them to start eating a bit less at this age as their growth slows down), I would be getting a second opinion on why she's not eating and throwing up bile. I'm not buying your vet's explanation, lots of puppies continue on puppy food up to a year of age, and "performance" food which is given to adults can be even richer.

You also want to make sure you're not "training" her to not eat by fussing over her when she doesn't, adding goodies, and switching foods.

She may just not be hungry. You might try giving her smaller meals, then a biscuit before bed to lessen the chance of her vomiting bile in the morining (if that's when she's doing it).

Maddie is 6 years old now, but she's only eaten about 1 to 1.5 cups of food a day for years, since she was about a year old. I have her food available at all times, and I fill the bowl every other day, 2-3 cups. We feed her Iams, and she's been on adult food since she was about 6 months old, due to her developing Pano. The veterinary wanted to slow her growth down in an effort to reduce her pain.

I don't know if that will help you, but if it were Maddie, I would be reluctant to change her food; she's eaten the same all her life quite happily, and she's never had digestive upsets. I would give a biscuit or other treat before bed to see if that helps with the morning vomiting. Your baby may just need something in her stomach at bedtime.

Right now she gets 3cups total for the day... So in the morning she gets a cup and a half and in the evening a cup and a half.... And if she does eat, she will only eat one of the meals but it seems weird that she's only eating a cup and a half for a full day....
that is 1/2 a cup more per day than Macey who is 54# here litter-mate gets more than twice that each dog is an individual in metabolism Feed less but twice a day the yellow bile often occurs when the dog is on an empty stomach for to long a period especially a puppy.

too rich still have ho Idea what that means to much fat, too much protein, too digestible, to calorically dense if it is any of those it is BS

Does the vet think she's underweight? Most people think bassets should be heavier than is really necessary. I don't usually worry about youngsters being skinny.

Our joey was very lean when he was that age too. I posted some pictures up. While back because a couple of strangers had said he was very slim for a basset. When I put my pictures up here everyone said he was perfect. My vet also said he was perfect, I trust her as she used to have a basset herself.
Not so long back he started being a bit fussy with his food so that was him telling me he is big boy now so I changed his eating patterns from 3 times a day down to 2.
He gets a cup of food in the morning around 6am mixed with a little wet food. If I just give him the kibble on its own he will give me stink eye and go back to bed but if there's wet food in it he wolfs it down. He then gets a few treats during the day then 6pm dinner time 1 cup of dry with a little rice, boiled chicken, fish, veggies, just whatever I've got really.
I thought at first he was being fussy but after a bit of mixing stuff around you will get into a good routine that suits you both.
Sometimes in the mornings joey will throw up a little bile if his stomach is empty. I thought it was my fault for not giving him his breakfast quick enough but I'm learning that he is a lazy bum in the mornings and he can never be bothered eating to early , he prefers belly rubs and making groaning noises lol.

Both of mine are completely different when it comes to eating habits.

Jake, has always "acted" like he was being starved to death. He gets a can of food in the AM and PM (plus treats when he comes in from being a good boy... as do all my dogs)

Ellie is a bit pickier. Actually now, she has started this odd thing of not wanting to eat her bowl of food until Jake has taken a few bites, then I have to have them switch bowls and all is good. I guess she is just a Prima Donna and needs a "taste tester"

I have found that their appetites do change as they age.

actually if they are not skinny they are at increased risk of orthopeadic development issues

"The goal is to keep growing puppies lean at about a body condition score of around 4 on a scale of 1-9 (a score of 1 is emaciated and 9 is grossly obese). You should be able to easily feel the ribs. Study drawings and complete descriptions of the desired body condition. A common body condition scoring system is provided at the following site: Promoting You Dog's Health - Purina®. "

Maybe feed three or four meals a day, more frequently for the throwing up?

I ets four meals a day, and that helps my tummy. But I only ets 1 to 1 1/2 cups of kibble a day. Tho I always get some other stuff like wet food or slow cooked chicken/veggies. I weigh 40 lbs right now. I don't think I could eat 3 1/2 cups of kibble/day But that is just me.
