I am having an issue finding a Basset Hound Meet Up group in my area. I would really love to find one so Hoss can play within a whole pack of hounds. Not to mention it would be completely amusing to see a bunch of these silly, droopy dogs running around with each other playing. Has any one else run into this issue? I am beginning to think that Basset Hounds are not very popular in the North East.

Pretty sure there are tons of Bassets in that area. I'm pretty sure Guardian Angel Basset Rescue just had their annual Basset Waddle. There's sure to be more going on over there. The closest I can find living in Germany are Basset Walks happening in the UK .:( Good luck!

I haven't seen any in my area either. Never run into any at the dog park (which we go to frequently) and I work at a vet's office and have only seen one come through and he passed away. The closest thing I have found was a waddle over two hours away. I have a friend who has a small beagle and we have regular play dates but so far that is it.

to say they arnt popular/non existant in your area just means your not lookin hard enough.

i took emma to the big woofstock event today that raises money for the humane society and saw plenty of bassets. they may not be as popular as the poodles, labs and retrievers but there were plenty to be seen and they got more attention from folks walkin by(and treats). my main goal was asking the other basset owners about vets in the area instead of meet ups though. but it was good to compare how small emma was to the other badsets around.(a three month old pup? was almost as big as her)

Guardian Angel is actually in Illinois. ABC Basset rescue is in New York but I'm not sure the location. They just had an event called DroolFest. MikeyT (in Rhode Island) and/or Bubbad (In PA) might know of some basset groups in your area.

Maybe try your "local" basset rescue...the rescue I got Edee from has a breakfast with bassets the first Saturday of the month at a local dog park, maybe yours does too. I put local in quotations because the rescue is about a hour away, but its managable. And if they don't, maybe suggest it. Good luck!

I see very little in my area also (Roanoke, VA) besides my two, my vet has only on other (Flash... gotta love that name!) and he is fairly elderly. Much like my Jake (he is 10). My Abby is nearing 3, but is having medical issues, so I would (sadly) put her on the short-life list.

Personally, I don't understand why Bassets aren't the MOST popular breed. They are about as sweet, loving, and loyal as any dog can be. No creature can snuggle quite like a basset!

OK, I do acknowledge their shortcomings. They are not the "best" guard dogs... Yep, they bark and make one hell of a racket, but as far as
fierce... not so much... (at least not mine... they welcome anyone with a cookie or belly rub)
