Swimming Duck
Guardian Angel Basset Rescue is a big one in IL. (Contact Us) You can also use PetFinder.com to search bassets in your traveling distance. A lot of shelters and rescues use it to post and it would help cut down having to hunt everywhere. |

I haven't applied to GABR, but I'm currently in contact with a couple of non-breed specific rescues that have bassets. So I'm going to wait and see if any of the bassets I'm currently inquiring about end up being a fit. I've been checking petfinder OBSESSIVELY...lol. That's how I've found my leads, so I've been contacting organizations that have bassets! |

*sigh* A basset that seemed like she might be right for us was adopted while we were going through approval stuff with one of the rescues. I did go ahead and apply to GABR. I'm not sure how that's going to go as they seem a bit hesitant to work with families with young children. I do get why organizations have rules such as those, but it still sucks nonetheless!

Sorry swimming duck-no knowledge of AHeinz, will ask around my rescue buddies though. I'm on the IL/WI border
Yes, its tough and frustrating when they get adopted when you go through the process(happened to us a couple times while looking for Eclairs spot in the family). Don't fret, the right one will find you with persistance, just keep looking. And make sure the connection and personality and temprement is 100% right with you, we met one guy that just diddnt fit us, I followed his progress and he was adopted a month later by a great single older lady who he was perfect for. I've kept my eye on the Bassets on petfinder weekly for a year jus I love the breed and want to give no kill rescues heads up if I see any in killl shelters in the chicago and burb area, I have seen lots over the months! Keep your eye on BREW the beagle rescue, they have had several bassets or mixes too! If I see or hear of any I will let you know |

Awww Thanks! I have looked at BREW in the past and I pulled them up again. So I will have to keep my eye there also! I realize that good things come to those that wait, but it is hard to be in process once you've made up your mind that you'd love to be owned by a basset! But we do want to wait until the temperament and connection is exactly what it needs to be, so you are right on that! Thanks for your help. I can't wait to find our family member and post pics and stories along with everyone else!

I know how hard it is once you have made up your mind that you want an addition to your home to sit patiently and wait for "the one". I just wanted to let you know I was browsing PetFinder tonight and saw a bunch if basset hounds and basset mixes in my local area and quiet a few of them had free transportation to an approved home. I know that would mean that you don't get to meet the dog first but all the dogs live in a foster type home. Might be something worth looking into. There were quite a few baby/young bassets on there also. Hope that helps you some. Good luck in your quest!!
