Default Hello There-

Hi All-

I am the proud mom of a 12 almost 13 year old grumpy old man. I say grumpy old man in jest, as Mr. Token is very much the laid back basset. He spends most of his time working hard catching up on his back log of sleep, LOL. But his favorite thing to do is bark at the other dogs at the dog park, sniff around and pee on things outside. I've attached a picture of us- him tolerating my kissing him.

I have a few concerns about a couple of behaviors that Token has picked up in the last couple of months.
1. He's scarfing water like crazy. We have quite a large water bowl that is out all the time (I have two other dogs as well) and he will drink 1/2 to 3/4 of it (i think it holds a gallon) at a time. It worries me a bit because I have concerns about bloat with his age- and our other basset died of bloat. This is the newest behavior.

2. He's started eating poop. This is not something he has done in the past. I feed him very good protein rich food (Taste of the Wild), so I'm unsure why he is feeling the need to eat poop. Has anyone's older basset started this kind of behavior? I'm flummoxed, and honestly a bit worried about parasites he could contract from eating poop.

Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance

Drinking alot of water all of a sudden should be checked out by your vet- could be a number of things: diabetes or cushings disease are possibilities considering his age-

I'd have him checked for both behaviors. Any sudden change in behavior may have a medical cause. That said, my boy Spot started drinking a lot when he was a senior and we could never find anything wrong with him.

I agree on going to the vet. Token goes more than he likes because I do watch him like a hawk as far as behavior is concerned. However, I wanted to make sure this wasn't me being a chicken little if you will.

Thank you both for your responses!
