At what age do most bassets begin howling? I've had 2 bassets in the past, one never howled and i can't remember how old the other was when she started howling. I'm thinking around 1 year? I LOVE the basset howl. There's nothing like it! My parent's basset, Mabel, can have a whole conversation with you. I am wondering when my 10 month olds will start. So far they just bark with the occasion extended bark that could work into a howl at some point. I tell Mabel to teach them how to Woo and she tries but they just look at her like she's nuts! How old were your bassets when they started howling?

Ruby and I have been conversing with each other on a daily basis since she was a puppy. We have full conversations and I understand every "word" she says and she understands every word I say.

When Ruby howls, she crosses her eyes. :P And her own voice sometimes hurts her ears. tee hee

The best tho is when she moo's and does so on command. Many fortunate people have heard it and they all say we should submit a tape of her on that home video show to win big bucks. If we had a video camera we would.

Awwwww! My parent's dog mainly Woooooos, but I never heard a Moooo! You should borrow a video camera to tape that. That would win hands down over some of the stupid "human children" things that win. :P Ruby is adorable by the way!

Byron only howls when he is outside and hears a siren. It sounds like he is trying to help.

Charger made his first little aroo on his 4 month old birthday yesterday! I like it better than the plain old barking.

I had wondered if all bassets bayed?! Nugget barks alot and will sometimes do that "several barks together" thing but she hasn't bayed yet. She is an "only dog" and the cat hasn't taught her to meow yet! She's very vocal and makes all sorts of noises to communicate with me! My son would love it if she's let out a big "aroooo" though!
