My wife has agreed to let us basset-sit for some friends of ours who are going out of town for four days. The dog is a small female, house-broken, and fairly well-behaved (so we've been told, anyway). This will make or break my chances of getting a basset in the future!

she'll crack

whats not to love about them - even if they are naughty the whole time (i'm sure they'll be good as gold)!

she'll miss the dog once its gone and then want one of her own.

hope to see pics of your adventures over those four wonderful days!

All pawsies crossed here!!!! We'll all be very worried about her if she doesn't crack. How could not love our clown-faced houndies with all their amazing antics.

Keep us posted!!!

Well, the first day with our rent-a-dog has been positive. Brandy (the basset) has tested "the look" on every family member who ate the delicious ribs that have been simmering in the crockpot all day. My wife was the first one to cave in, and then the dumb thing wouldn't eat her dinner.

When I let her out in the yard to do her business, I was concerned because we have four rabbits in cages out there. She sniffed near one of the cages, and the bunny stomped and scared her away!
The best news is that the eight feral cats we've been feeding are nowhere to be seen. I'm sure they're totally disgusted. Maybe we can get through a night without cat fights under the bedroom window.

She's really small for a basset--about thirty-five pounds, according to her owners. She doesn't have the breed standard features--less wrinkled, no prominent haw under the eyes; looks more like a throwback to the French type, though she's purebred. Musta been the runt of the litter.

She's a little confused, wondering where her people are and why they left her with us. She'll settle down in another day or two, I think. She's a real sweet dog; even my wife admits that.

The downside is she has a very strong hound odor, and the house stinks already. I think we need to give her a bath for my future basset's sake!
