Crate question

Cuddy is growing up... and out of her crate!

She uses it for sleep only- I am looking at a similar style and also a heavy gauge wire crate- Do you have any recommendations on types or sizes? She is 4 months old and 21 pounds!

You may want to consider a wire kennel it allows for more air movement.

We have a cordura crate that collapses for the house and a wire crate for the car.

Ernest has been using both since we got him at 18 lbs and 11 weeks. We got a big crate and put wine boxes in it to make it smaller. He was so tiny. He's now using thewhole thing.

The cordura crate is great because it does collapse and you can open up the side or the top as well as the front. It has mesh for the openings, so you could use it outside and keep the bugs out.

I use wire crates for the house. In colder weather, or if someone isn't feeling well, I throw a blanket over the crate for privacy and comfort. I have a mesh crate that I take to shows to use in hotels, but I wouldn't use it full-time at home, especially for a puppy who's apt to chew everything in sight!

I like my wires. They're totally collapsible and easy to store without taking up tons of space, portable enough, and you can easily adjust the size to accomodate a growing puppy......

Over the years, I've accumulated multiple crates of multiple types--wire, plastic, and fabric. My dogs eat in separate crates, and most of them sleep in the same crates. I don't really notice a preference on the dogs' parts. I've had the worst luck with the fabric (tent) crates. I lost one fabric crate when my big girl put her big foot through the cheap plastic zipper, and I lost another fabric crate to a chewing puppy.

I use wire and plastic crates at home, fabric crates for hotel rooms and obedience trials because they're very portable, and plastic crates when I'm showing in conformation to keep the dog clean. Plastic crates can also be used for air travel. A 36" long crate will adequately accommodate the average adult basset.
