Monday and Tuesday night, 8:00 on USA Network. I went last year, but couldn't make it this year. I have friends in New York already, and I'm both jealous and heartbroken. Micheal LaFave, long-time basset breeder is the announcer again this year, and David Frei will host -- he does such a great job!
Hounds don't show until Tuesday, so Wednesday will see me falling asleep at my desk ..........

I've been watching this since 1992 and I'm always ticked off when they barely show the bassets....here's hoping he/she gets more camera time.

Yes, Barb, I saw that write-up earlier today. Besides being well-qualified, I think Mike's voice is perfectly suited to the job! Bassets are in the ring at 9:30 Tuesday morning, I think, so I'll probably call Judy around 11:00 to find out who did what

I think I spoke with him on the telephone once when we were looking for a breeder to get a basset.

The results are in on the Basset Hound judging. A gorgeous male, Ch Maredge Good To Go, is the winner. Four of the Bassets were listed as absent. I wonder what happened to those guys. Two of them were Topsfield Bassets. The best of "opposite sex", Ch Craigwood Beclove Hells Bells, was awesome, as well. You can click on the link under the two top winners and see a picture. It sure would be nice to see a Basset walk away with the Hound Group tonight and top honors as well. I just hope they will show the Basset, somehow they always get pushed to rear it seems with TV coverage.

Topsfield bassets weren't shown because the judge, Peter Martin, is a relative of the professional handler they use. Just wouldn't be ethical. Since Slugger is not a Topsfield-bred dog, they opted to show him.
As far as taking a Group I, I'm not saying it isn't possible, but the Hound Group is a very strong one. The Deerhound has won many BIS. Looking at the entry for PBGV's, I'm guessing that little Fairchild will get the Breed, and she's been winning heavily for a couple of years, too. Again, I'm not saying possitively that Slugger won't win the Group. It's just that realistically speaking, he's got some really tough competition. I'm hoping he gets a Group placement. As far as coverage goes, we should get to see him. Westminster is my favorite show to watch because they don't just spot light the favored dogs, they give equal time to everyone. Probably because it's live......
