My 15 month old Basset whines alot, especially when he isnt getting what he wants, he has been doing it today ALOT even though I took him for a decent walk in a large park before I went to work, left him with the TV on for 3 hours with the house to roam (bottom floor) and then took him for an even longer walk as soon as I got back, with him running free the whole time and playing with lots of other dogs!
He doesnt do this all the time but when he does it drives me insane!!! Help!!!!

Ruby is a whiner a moaner and makes a ton of noise. Rarely barks tho.

I thought I was going to go stark raving mad listening to that all day long when she was a puppy but then I started making those noises back to her! She went bezerk with excitement and that started her really listening to me or so I think. She learned what the word NO means about then too.

I forgot to mention that Ruby still whines now-a-days but it doesn't consumer her like it did before.

I too make the noises back to Hugo, doesnt make the blindest bit of difference!!! He is very needy wanting attention alot, I really hope this will calm down, Im sure it will! It normally doesnt bother me but sometimes........!!!!

it is an effective atttention seeking behavior for the dog because it drives you nuts and you must respond. You can try ignoring the behavior but be fore warned because of a behaviour phenonenom known as an exctinction burst it will get worse before it get better using this method general much worse.

Get a Kong. Fill it with a little food covered in peanut butter. Freeze it.

This will keep Woodrow occupied for hours. It's good for his teeth, gets some energy out, and apparently is good for their mental well-being.

Woodrow used to whine, but I found that mostly I just need to keep him occupied. If he's not sleeping, or I'm not playing with him, I make sure he has plenty of chew toys to choose from. Hope this helps.

My mom's doxie's love their kongs...they chewed two of them to pieces already!

I got one of those little puppy kongs for my baby girl yesterday, and I put a puppy treat in it...she chewed on it a little today, but she doesn't get what all of her toys are quite yet! She was chasing her tail today for awhile, and then layed down and fell asleep! Too precious...
