Besides having access to my bed & the couch, Sadie & Spencer have always had several dog beds scattered throughout the house. Since I am down to one hound now & a couple of the beds were getting old, I decided to get rid of 2 of them & get one nice new bed for Spencer. Here is a picture of the bed from the Petsmart website that I chose for him:

The bed cost $90.00, but I was sure he would love it, which would make it worthwhile. It was about the size of a baby bed mattress, and was 7 inches thick. Yesterday I brought it home and put it down for him. He warily sniffed it & ran out of the room. I got a treat & put it in the middle the bed. He came out, walked to the side of the bed, put his front feet on the bed & stretched to get the treat and then took off running to the other room. I went and picked him up, carried him to the bed & sat with him on it. He started to shake and when I let go of him, he bolted from the room. He would not even come into the room with it. Sigh...back to Petsmart today. Thankfully, they allowed me to return it, and they got a good laugh from the reason for my return. I went home with a different bed, like the old ones we had and Spencer was a very happy guy. Here his is just after waking up from a nap on the new bed.

You gotta wonder what goes through their heads sometimes!

I went through the same thing with Stomps. I bought him a beautiful (and fairly expensive) bed for the living room. He was scared to death of it! He preferred sleeping on the two ratty $10 mats in the garage. But because my cat liked it, I couldn't take it back to the store. So after about 8 months, the other night Stomps very tentatively stepped onto the bed and laid down on it. He's slept on it once again that I know of. Maybe once it gets stinky and full of dog hair, he'll love it as much as the ones in the garage.

My kids prefer their inexpensive worn out soft pillow beds from Costco over their nice crib mattress. I bought the crib matress, liner and sheets thinking it's bigger and they can stretch out. Rusty will sleep on it but Stickers much prefers the Costco bed?? Go figure??

That's funny you should bring up beds! This weekend I bought BJ, our Lab, a new bed because he won't use the "new" bed I bought him about 6 months ago! He started sleeping in MY bed, taking up the whole top part after Baxter came into the family. BJ was always insecure, but now he's a lot worse. So I was in WalMart on Saturday and saw a bed that was made out of recycled soda bottles! It was so fluffy (the other one I got him was like an orthopedic type bed - not fluffy). I put it down in my room and he tried to get into it but it was TOO FLUFFY!! It also was a bit small for him, although it was the largest they had and showed a picture of a Lab on the wrapper. I then put it in his "old" bed, this was a bolster type outter bed with a well in the middle for a pillow bed. I had to put a sheet on it was welll. Now he loves it and I got my bed back!! Yea!!

Well at least you got it right with the pillow! ALL hounds need a pillow for their heads! And with José, covers, too!

My dogs play musical beds throughout the night. The latest is that my fiance brought home a futon matress (because the one we had on our futon frame wasn't very good); well instead of putting it on the frame he put it in the kitchen for the dogs during the day. They now have a futon matress, a doggie bed (each), and a comforter (each), and Lily has a fish pillow that she uses. Talk about spoiled...
