[font=Comic Sans Ms] Awwwww we finally got Bruno! Weve had him for a week so far and its all been great. Him and the cats get along GREAT! Right now actually him and our male cat Hercules are playing around. We took him to the pet store and bought all his stuff, he got so many smoochies and rubs the whole time we were there. The kids are doing great with them, our youngest doesnt like it when he barks (he just recently found his bark and growl...lol) I just love having him around hes so snuggly and smushy and his face is just priceless. I am in love with the basset breed they are great. Bruno is so full of antics and just goofy things that I dont stop laughing. He def was the perfect choice for our family addition. Thanks for all the good advice and as soon as I can Im going to post pics of him on here....I cant wait for everyone to see his freckles and rolls!!!!!!

Any training tips from the vets...Bruno is so funny but so bad sometimes..And hes petrified of the rain so taking him outside is a fight!!!!!!

Classes, classes and more classes. He will love the social exposure he gets in the classes and you can meet other puppy owners who are going through the same thing. Remember, the basset was originally bred to be a tenacious tracker so he will be stubborn and will be COMPLETELY distracted by different scents. Keep this in mind when you're getting ready to give up. By remembering the breed characteristics you should be able to outwit him when you need to. Have fun with your new little puppy.

I don't think of it as a matter of outwitting. Training a basset is this simple. A basset or any dog for that matter ends up doing what it feels in it's own best interest. The idea is to teach the dog it is in its best interest to follow your commands. For the typical basset food can be a powerful motivator. THe thing is you must learn to use food as a reward, not as a bribe.

Above all, don't keep this puppy a secret. And of course, the great thing about socializing a young puppy is that it also does wonders for your own social life!

At the very latest, be certain your pup starts puppy training classes before it is eighteen weeks old. And you certainly want your pup enrolled in class well before it collides with adolescence! I simply can not over emphasize the importance of placing yourself under the guidance and tutelage of a professional pet dog trainer, while you are negotiating your dog's precarious and hair-raising transition from puppyhood to adolescence. Glad to hear Bruno is adjusting well to his new home! I highly recommend the puppy classes, I found that it was a great resource for answers to all types of behavior questions. I enrolled Jackie as soon as she was old enough and I feel that I could not have gone through the baby puppy stage without the classes.

Good luck with everything and please post some pictures when you get them!
