Hello all, new here we are from staffordshire, uk. We are due to pick up a lovely 9 week old basset girl on Friday this week, have done lots of research but any advice as to socialising her in the first few days would be very welcome, we don't have any other dogs at the moment but do have one 4 year old little girl! Any tips welcome as are any contacts from local people! James & Cath

Welcome and congratulations on your future baby girl! First suggestion is enrol her in puppy party classes. Great for socialisation and a good way to meet the other peeps and puppies in your area. We're still friends with a couple dogs and their humans from Lula's classes (14 years ago).

Be prepared to have your house taken over! Bassets are very, very good at that, lol. And welcome to the forum!

Well, I carried my first hound around in my sweatshirt, and did not worry about "spoiling" her. she was my most independent dog. Since then the others have been rescues or rehomes, and act much more insecure. When I had my child, I carried her around in a backpack, and no surprise, she also was very confident. If you give them what they need and ask for when young, they take off on their own when older. Just my experience, may not be the case for everyone
