Default Gray face already?

At what age did your bassets get gray hair? I rescued Riley 09/2010 and they were not sure of his age. He still plays like a little boy but his face is showing some gray now I would love to know his real age.

It really depends on the individual dog. Leila started to go grey at 2 1/2, but I've also had bassets with hardly any grey at 10-12 years.

Ninja just turned 3 years old a month ago and, for a while already, she has been getting some gray coming in on her muzzle. Kinda surprised me when I first started noticing it. Larsen is going to be 7 in April and doesn't have a speck of gray on him. Scully started around 4'ish.

Default Gray face already?

Wow.. The age and the gray really varies for everyone. I read somewhere that we can also determine aging by their eyes but I don't recall that process exactly. Everyone's answers to the gray is really amazing.

Maddie will be 6 in April, and she has the lightest sprinkling of frost on her sweet little face.

This is my dog Toby and the rescue we got him from estimates that he is four years old but when I brought him to a vet they said they are not sure where this number came from. Due to an old injury of a broken jaw his teeth are all messed up. The vet wouldn't even give me a ball park number because they said there is absolutely no way to tell. He looks a lot older to me but they also said it could just be because he wasn't cared for properly and because of that he has some other problems to that normally he wouldn't have at a young age. So who knows.

Layla was stark red and white in the face when we adopted her at about 1.5 years of age. By the time she was 3 she had grayed up a bit, but she still acts the same.
