Hi All,
Glad to find such a lively Basset forum. In a nutshell, here is my story: After way too long since losing my last hound, a neighbor told me about an elderly female at a no-kill shelter. We brought her home for a trial weekend two months ago, and she has never left! I see you have more than one Rosie here-- that is also her name. She is a former breeder, and one look at her beautiful face tells you why. Her personality is pure sugar, too. Rose has pretty marked arthritis for which the vet gave Rimadyl. Her teeth were bad, with two needing extraction, but now she is much more active and wags a lot. She sleeps and goes for a morning and evening walk if she is not in too much pain. Even in pain, she lies near the front door and waits for that leash! Her age is unknown, but you can see the hard life she has had. At the shelter, she came straight to me and leaned her head on me, got in the car and never looked back. Apparently I am her third home in less than a year. I find that baffling, as she does not howl, dig, or chew, and only knocks over the trash if there is something irresistible, like a cheese wrapper, in it. I so hope to have her for a good long while, and am determined to make her last years very comfortable. Will post pics soon. Happy to be here! |

These stories bring tears to my eyes. So many good people out there giving our hounds homes.
I met a lady last week who has 5 rescue bassets, I thought she was amazing for this. After our joey is 1 year old I'm defiantly going to consider taking a basset from a shelter. Being on this site has made me realise just how many unwanted dogs there are out there and it breaks my heart. I'm sure Rosie will have a great innings now with tonnes of cuddles xxxSent from Petguide.com Free App |

Sorry to hijack the OP ....... well done for rescuing! How often do they seem to know when they've been given a second chance. Last edited by FranksMum; 01-30-2013 at 09:33 AM. |
