This is Miss Jelly Roll. She's Donut's younger sister, and came to live with us on Friday. She's a big, goofy girl, who was doing well with the adjustment until last night.
And, this morning. Oh, dear. Crying and howling until 1 a.m. Finally falls asleep, but is up and back at it at 5 a.m. I'm stumped. How could the sleeping arrangements be just fine for the first two nights, then be so miserable on night three. Any suggestions? Even Donut looks perplexed.

She's probably homesick.

My poor neighbor. I naively thought with Donut here, Jelly would be just fine. The only time the two of them have been apart, is the 5 months Donut has been with us.
She snookered me with the first two nights going so well.

I had to laugh (sorry) over this one. Typical! For the first few days she didn't know what was going on. Plus she was most probably tired out after the first couple of days activities, so slept. Then fully recharged, she decided it was time to push you
![]() I can tell you with our first hound (such a learning curve) he was so quiet the first night that by 6am I actually went down to the kitchen to make sure he was still alive. Big mistake! Of course he was, gathering strength for the next night when all h**l broke loose. To the point I had to bring him up with us to avoid not only our attached next-door neighbour being at our door, but half the rest of the neighbourhood too. It was THAT loud. She's very cute, but look at those eyes ....... trouble with a big T. Stick to your guns - unless you do what I did with our first 2, and had them up with us overnight. Obviously once we had more, that didn't happen, but the first 2 remained up with us at night for all their days. ![]() They do say that Bassets own you, not the other way round you know. |

Thanks, everyone.
I finally let her "howl it out" at 12:30, and she settled down. When she started up at 5 a.m., my first thought was our dear neighbor. I let her go for 20 min., then went down and pretended like it was 6 a.m. and our regular morning. Today is a holiday for me. So much for sleeping in a bit. I hope she settles down...soon! Our first pair of Bassets used to sleep in our room. When my old male developed incontinence, we moved them downstairs to our sunroom (where the current Bassets SHOULD be sleeping). I really don't want them back in our room. I'm going to bring my neighbor flowers today, and keep trying. And yes, she is very cute. Stinker.

Herzo, she came to us through the breeder we got Donut from. They share parents but are different litters.
Both girls are recovering show dogs :-) We almost brought both home in August. I should have listened to my husband. I was SO sure we could just have one. Ha! I'm grateful Jelly as still available. Picked her up on Friday.

LOL, Mikey! Nine?!?!
Whoever is front and center in your photo is a ringer for Donut. I'm not as brave as you. I teach at a continuation high school. I need to be on my game in the mornings.
