You are right!! Emma thinks for a LONG time before making any decision. That's so interesting. Oscar on the other hand, had it all down...come sit heel stay down all in a heartbeat. I need to get used to the Basset style!!

Not even close to an "expert" However, I find mine have been mostly motivated by food and praise (praise to the point its a party and you look like a raving lunatic if anyone is watching).
Personally, I don't like choke collars or the sort. "Harshest" I get is a Gentle Lead with Jake (the kind that flips over his snout) just because he can pull so hard and drag me behind him (Admittedly, I didn't do a good job training in the beginning. He was my first basset and I was spoiled by a really smart shepherd). My later bassets (all girls) have done much better. I don't know if it is the genders, my learning curve or a mix.
