I would like to ask anyone who has several dogs or anyone who breeds dogs......how do you control the constant barking when your dogs are outside?? My neighbor has 16 dogs in a compact area. I simply can not deal with it anymore. I wake up to barking dogs and I go to sleep to barking dogs. My back yard faces his back yard. I have called the homeowners association, animal control (no abuse is happening) code enforcement and the local sheriff. He has 8 pit bulls and 8 jack russels. None of the agencies can do anything. All of the neighbors have tried those loud horns and we have tried one of those radio frequency devices that are suppose to deter barking. The guy who owns the house, could care less that he is a nuisance to everyone around him. I really want to hear from the breeders who have dogs outside and how they control the noise and the smell. I am desperate to resolve. My basset is inside 99% of the time and I don't understand the concept of multiple dogs in cages. Any advice would be helpful.

What makes you thing the majority of resposnible dog breed keep multiple dog incages and out side,. Most of those in the fancy have indoor dogs. Most towns have noise ordinances and dog barking in particular Usually cetain measurable criteria must be met the db level at a certain distance and continuance for 15 minutes or more. What you need to do is document both of these with recording etc. Whe an inspector come the kennel owner will control the barking so it meets the standard and they can;t issue a citation etc therefore the need to document the problem once they leave,
see sec 19-47 and 19-77 of tampa municipal code,. |

Nope. No ordinance. As I said, I am looking for any advice Mikey and thank you but we do not have that ordinance in my county. I have been on the phone with the assistant state attorney more than a few times regarding this issue. I have contacted all of the county commissioners as well. Clearly I know the difference between a responsible dog owner (like us) and one who leaves their dogs outside in the elements. I am searching for a solution to the barking since we are without an ordinance. The only thing that we have is an anti tethering law and the dogs are not to be used commercially unless they are licensed. If anyone has a neighbor with barking dogs or if a breeder can give me any advice to pass along to this guy, please let me know.

It has nothing to do with breeding, an irresponsible annoying dog owner is an irresponsible, annoying dog owner whether they have twenty dogs or just one.
Unless there is some sort of regulation he is breaking, you are probably SOL.

Responsible breeders who do have dogs outside choose a location where the dogs won't be annoying neighbors, have visual/sound barriers around the kennel property to limit the things the dogs will bark at, debark if necessary (usually for extremely noisy breeds like shelties) and keep their kennels clean. I had a friend who raised Siberian Huskies, and yes they lived outside (although the kennel was covered so they would stay dry and have protection from the sun) because the breed was designed to sleep in the snow and they did just fine no matter what the weather. They were never a nuisance in any way.
