Hi, I live a little north of the city and wondering if anybody on here knows of a vet who is familiar with bassets around the area. My Reese's right elbow is knuckled over quite a bit and its worrying me. She doesnt seem bothered by it, but she is only 1. I am worried it may get worse. On the other hand, I hate to subject her to any surgery, etc. when she doesnt even know she is "handicap" LOL. Have a great day!

Hi: very cute bassets. Don't know if you've had any evaluation at all yet, but I can give you the name of a great ortho surgeon/facility with lots of basset experience about 3.5 hours you.
He was very conservative surgery wise; after evaluating our girl did surgery on only one leg even tho both had problems. He felt the other was not causing any problems so he didn't think surgery was required. We were referred by our primary vet. you will hear a variety of stories about other's experiences....great benefit of this forum. For us, surgery was the only option...she had daily pain and inability to walk without falling. |

You might want to ask the folks at Droopy Basset Hound Rescue for a recommendation. They are a couple hours north of Pittsburgh and have tons of bassets, so I would imagine that the vet they usually use would be pretty experienced with the breed.
Droopy Basset Hound Rescue of Western PA 15581 Stewart Hill Rd Union City, PA 16438 (888) 943-8376 We take Molly to Northern Pike Veterinary Hospital in Monroeville. We've been very happy with them so far, but Molly hasn't had any serious issues yet, so I can't tell you for sure if they are the kind of experts you are looking for. 4264 Northern Pike Monroeville, PA 15146 (412) 373-8580 |

sorry for the late response. she was just over one year.
we didn't even realize she had a problem with the left leg until we took her to the surgeon. the right leg was so bad, the left looked normal. as said, he only repaired the right leg as he felt the defect in the left was not severe enough to warrant surgery. sophie is awesome now...runs, etc...like a "normal" basset. keep us posted |
