Hello all,

Just a quick intro, I'm new to the forums, and to the wonderful world of Basset Hounds. I've had my Cairn Terrier for six years now, and had really been wanting a second dog for some time but the timing just wasn't right. In October my husband and I decided to take the plunge, and started obsessively combing through Petfinder (me more than him, hehe) and visiting shelters. Our main criteria was 1. No puppies, 2. Less than 50 lbs, and 3. A dog that would enjoy jogging with me. Well, at the second adoption event we attended there were two beautiful little Basset Hounds pups and the rest is history!

From what the rescue was able to tell us, Rizzo was brought in from a puppy mill. They believe (by looks alone) that she and her sister were pure Basset, and estimated them to be about 11 weeks. At the time, Rizzo weighed about 8 lbs. Now, at roughly 5 months she's weighing in at 19 lbs. From talking with other Basset owners she has helped us meet, we're led to believe she's pretty small for a Basset.

Being right at the brink of outgrowing her loaner crate from her Cairn brother, we're trying to make an educated decision on the crate size that will be big enough to house her full grown, but as small as possible due to space limitations in our apartment. I was hoping to get some input from you all on your pup's age and weight for the sake of comparison. And those of you with adults and good memories, please help!

One more note, she has been losing her puppy teeth for a month and a half to two months now, so I think her age estimate of 5 months is pretty accurate.

Welcome Rizzo and Kelly! She is super cute! Our pup Emma is 3 months (14 weeks) and weighs around 21 pounds. The boy on the left is our 1.5 years old mutt Oscar who is absolutely a sweetheart and super tolerant to Emma.

ours is one of the smaller bassets. 15 months and 30ish pounds (her weight ranges from 28 to 30)

Hi there Rizzo and family! I think we saw you at the dog park a few weekends ago! I was reading your post thinking, "Gosh this sounds familiar!" and then I remember...Rizzo! She certainly is adorable! I hope she and Watson can meet up again soon!

My Big Boy is Jake. He is 13 years old. Usually weighs in around 65 lbs.

My "Baby" Elllie is 6 months today and last week she was 35 lbs (best I could figure with me, the scale & her and a bit of math!)

Ellie is nearly as long as Jake, but not as tall or as muscular (of course that comes with age). Both are slender and not carrying any x-tra weight.

Right now, both are going all out... I am ready for them to settle down, as I am ready for bed! Then again, If I got to nap all day....

Frankie is 13 week old male and weighs 26 pounds. He is very thick with loads and wrinkles. Took him for his check-up yesterday and he is not overweight...just big (hence his nickname "Frank the Tank"). He is from European bloodlines.

Kenzie is 11 weeks old and weighs around 13 pounds. We started off with a crate that fits just her size and will get a bigger one once she is grown. Welcome to the family, she's so adorable btw
