you need a place that has puppy class and foundation training. this will involve flat work and little to no obstacal training till the dog is at least a year old. You do not want to put abnormal loads on the growth plates of a growing pup.

Jake is 13 and still has his wild moments, just fewer ... Ellie, at 5 mo.. is a wild child, I call her my "terrorist". She is either going full tilt, or dead asleep. Very little in between. She and Jake play and romp quite a bit, but when he has had enough, I play fetch with her... tho' its with every single toy, (she is a bit ADD and cant settle on just one, we have to hit every toy and chew!) We have a wooded lot so a nice walk and sniff in the woods helps to calm her. Then there is the Kong... what a great thing!!!

I am not an expert, but I would say keep the pup engaged and amused.

Bassets, contrary to rumors, are not lazy or stupid. They are sneaky little bastards that will out wit you! But you will never find a more loving breed!

Maybe your dog needs a little friend? Mine has one that is a doxie/beagle mix and when they run through the house it sounds like thunder, although most of the sound is coming from the Basset! They have a good time until it gets to be too much for the little guy and he retreats to someplace high where Maggie can't reach him.

Ok I don't know about the shoe thing but I love where she comes out of the tunnel and would really like to go snooping.

Abigail was a nut I had to let her go running at least twice a day at first, luckily I had a nice little path I could let her off leash. Then we moved to the country and she had allot of rabbits to chase, it was her life. Well she liked foxes even better when we would run into them.

LOL, So true.
When I started taking our eldest to Dog School Training the instructor was VERY dismissive about Bassets. Aged 8 he gained his bronze award, is going for his silver in the New Year & so help him he's going to get Gold just to prove her wrong. He's great in class is even asked to go first to show others how things should be done, but like most of his breed is not so hot when out & about on walks, but never mind it still makes my heart sing when he looks in my direction when I'm trying to recall him!

She is definitely a character with lots of expression. I love her face.

yes re: the posts about being busy. Ours runs, snoops, plays, etc. until she drops and falls right to sleep.

The beagles we had were more laid back than the bassets!
