My first dog, Sophie, was named for the movie "Sophie's Choice".
Jake was named that just because I always thought Jake was an excellent basset name. Abbie was named for Abbie from NCIS Ellie was almost "sara" after my mom, but hubby liked Ellie and it seemed to fit with Jake. I often call her Ellie-kins. I dunno why

I call Maddie "Noogie" and "Our Little Baboushka" No idea why. Her full name is Miss Madelyn May.

Our Maggie was a rescue who had been abused /thrown down stairs and the foster home changed her name briefly to Petunia. We only found out after we got her about the change, which was why she didn't answer to her name. She did answer to Maggie, though, and figuring she had been through enough, kept her name Maggie (which is now formally Margaret Grace, especially when she is up to something)

We had a 2 hour drive home from the breeder after picking up our new puppy. We brainstormed the whole time. As the puppy was my daughter's sweet 16 birthday gift, she got final say- texting her friends the whole time for their opinions. She picked Cooper, and it fits him perfectly.
His little sister is Lyla (Garrity) from Friday Night Lights. Pretty, sassy, can be a mean girl, but has a heart of gold- all at once. |

Flash is way overdone IMO. No offense to the cute little houndies named flash... but there's thousands of them it seems. There was a hound over on daily drool back in the day named Fang. I thought that was hysterical. I think bassets are good with common names too. The lady on here that named hers joey. I think that's GREAT for a basset! There's also a Norman of which I've always been very fond!
