Barney's a grouch too but I always gently wake him up first so not much of a problem...I find that with him, there is alot of compromise...seems like I have to jump thru the hoops in order to get the reaction I want...for a dog that is constantly in my face, he really has his own agenda

Its awesome to know this is fairly common. I have been waking her with my voice first and it seems to be working out great. Just nice and easy and of course - she is so happy to see me she gets over being pissy. lol! Thank you everyone for sharing and giving advice.
The grumbling is adorable. They have so much personality its insane! |

Glad that she's beginning to be less grumpy, very fortunate that don't have any problem waking them & if I can't get them to move cheat badly by walking into the kitchen rattling their biscuit jar & first one to respond gets a very small biscuit! |

Vectisvagrant - Your babies look like mine!! LOL!! all growed up!! Basset Hounds are like Pringles. When we went and let Bailey (My lemon Monster) pick us out, I didnt know how to just pick one. Ended up back within three days and let another one have their pick as well. You are right about food noises :-) nothing works better.

Compromise does seem to be key - Bailey gets on a roll destroying everything she can. I catch her and reprimand her. Replace her current No No toy with a Yes Yes one. She finds something else bad to do. I notice that the angrier I get the worse SHE gets. I actually sit down and apologize to her for my behaviour and she kisses me square on the lips. We are usually good after that. Whiskey is much better behaved. Very rare we have to have a conversation

Something like that.
Actually, they usually start to settle down a bit around 2-3.

I am considering switching to oil lamps. No chords. I have never seen so many baby gates in my entire life - you would swear we were harboring some species of tiger instead of the wild floppy drool monster
Our christmas tree looks like a war zone. I think I am going to make a "beware of tree" sign so it looks like we are actually protecting the dogs from the tree.
